Editorial In this issue of LRRD, we review the steps in the research to develop and use an in vitro rumen incubation system to measure methane production from feeding systems using tropical feed resources. This system facilitates identifiation of basal diets, and supplements, in terms of their potential to influence methane production. Practical steps to reduce methane production are the obligation of all researchers as their contribution to climate change mitigation. Of equal importance is that when methane is reduced the nutritive value of the diet is increased. We hope that the information will serve as a guide and encouragement to researchers in tropical countries in planning and executing their research activities. |
